The School Drug Task Force arrested a 13-year-old male student today for carrying a gun while attending class at McKinley Middle Magnet School, according to a statement issued by East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office Public Information Director Casey Rayborn Hicks.
Hicks said that several students told the assistant principal around noon that the boy had brought a gun to class. The administrator contacted the Sheriff’s Office, and the task force responded.
After searching the student, deputies discovered that he was wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a .38 caliber revolver. The gun was not loaded, Hicks said.
The juvenile was taken into custody and is charged with carrying a firearm onto school grounds.
